The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Recorded between February and July 1967, Pink Floyd’s debut album blended the type of long-form improvisations that the band were performing live at the time, with shorter, more whimsical numbers that would never have featured in their sets.

With a working title of Projection, the final name of the album came from chapter seven of Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind In The Willows, a book which gave Syd Barrett some inspiration in the writing of the album.

It’s the only album to feature Syd throughout, and was recorded before David Gilmour joined the band.
