Atom Heart Mother

Atom Heart Mother was Pink Floyd’s most ambitious recording project to date. A development of an idea from David Gilmour, called Theme From An Imaginary Western, a more basic live iteration had been performed already.

For the recording, a grander version was envisioned, which led to Ron Geesin being called in to assist. It is well documented what a struggle it was to get the piece in shape with the brass, orchestra and choir, with Geesin working flat out during the heat of the summer, but the results were worth it, and Atom Heart Mother has had a renaissance in recent years.

The other side of the album presents more conventional fare, with the exception of the quirky Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast - featuring Floyd roadie Alan Styles preparing breakfast in Mason’s kitchen, all in stereo…
