Initially planned as a compilation called Spare Bricks to capture songs from the sessions and film which didn’t appear on The Wall album, events in the South Atlantic took over.
The conflict over the Islas Malvinas/Falkland Islands troubled Roger Waters, which informed his work on this new album - the last he would appear on as a member of Pink Floyd. With a strong anti-war message and attack on the world leaders at the time, it was also a tribute to his father and others who had made the ultimate sacrifice.
The band didn’t tour the album, although Waters did perform selections from The Final Cut on some of his later solo tours.
