With Roger Waters now formally having left Pink Floyd, and the individual members having worked on their own solo projects, David Gilmour and Nick Mason reconvened.
It was an opportunity for a new start and a change of focus from the political direction the band had gone in from Animals onwards. It also eschewed the concept album idea, returning to a more standard set of songs exploring different subjects.
Accompanied by a lengthy tour, the album proved popular, with standout tracks including Sorrow, One Slip and On The Turning Away.
