For this multi-artist concert, attended by over 250,000 fans at the titular venue in Hertfordshire and raising millions of pounds for charity, numerous greats from the world of music did abbreviated sets under the heading of the Silver Clef Award Winners Concert. This release saw the full Pink Floyd headlining set available officially for the first time.
As part of it, The Great Gig In The Sky saw original vocalist Clare Torry return to recreate her iconic, abstract singing. Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell had both been previously released on Knebworth - The Album, which featured many of the artists involved in the concert.
The weather at the event changed at regular intervals throughout the day (from strong sun through to wind and rain), and for safety reasons, the Floyd’s Mr Screen (circular projection screen) was taken down before they began their set. The recording also appeared in The Later Years box set.
