David Gilmour resumed his Rattle That Lock tour at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the first of 34 shows that year – including two nights at the Amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy, where Pink Floyd's Pompeii performance was filmed, and were the first public performances at the ancient site since AD79 when Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii and neighbouring Herculaneum.

The newly formed label, Pink Floyd Records, saw its first four releases, the remastered versions of the band's initial albums: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn; A Saucerful of Secrets; More; and Ummagumma. These were all pressed on heavyweight vinyl, with packaging to replicate the originals. The rest of the band's catalogue subsequently followed over a period of time. The releases on the label are manufactured and distributed by Warner Music for the UK and Europe, and Sony Music for North America and the rest of the world.

The UK's Royal Mail released a set of postage stamps commemorating Pink Floyd. Six stamps featured iconic album covers: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn; Atom Heart Mother; The Dark Side of the Moon; Wish You Were Here; Animals; and The Endless River. A further four stamps within a miniature sheet celebrate the live performances of the band, from the appearances at the UFO Club, London in 1966, to the ambitious staging for albums such as The Wall and the Division Bell tours.

In a free concert at Zocalo Square attended by at least 270,000 in Mexico City, Roger Waters performed a show which was to become the basis for his 2017/18 Us + Them tour.

9 October 2016
Roger Waters performed the first of two consecutive Sunday evenings headlining the Desert Trip festival, held in October at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California (the site of the annual Coachella Festival). Support was provided by The Who, performing in the late afternoon.

Pink Floyd released the box set, The Early Years 1965-1972, which consisted of seven volumes (split by year) over 33 discs, including CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs, vinyl records, plus memorabilia including photos, posters and tour programmes. The collection of early unreleased and live recordings was later released in individual year 'breakout' sets, with the exception of a box set only volume of rare audio and video recordings.
