I heard of Pink Floyd here and there for years before I received my first album by the band. A cd of Dark Side of the Moon. I remember listening to it in the dark with my siblings and our father by candlelight. the way the shadows danced to “On the Run” was otherworldly. Then I got Animals and later Wish You Were Here, but when I got The Wall, my life was forever changed. While I received other albums here and there, The Wall became a favorite even to this day, 16 years later. It sparked an obsession with concept albums, specifically the rock opera variety. I am truly curious what the 50th anniversary of The Wall holds, 4 years too early. Seeing it live in 2012 was the best night of my life, and I sometimes wish I could meditate and transfer my mind back to that night.
Also, I once had this dream where I was riding on a flying whale while “Wish You Were Here” played in the background and I figured that was worth sharing.
Here’s to many more album anniversaries!
