“Wish You Were Here” is my absolute favorite PINK FLOYD album, and I remember vividly the raining late-morning-into-afternoon day I first heard it; on cassette, in my cousin’s van, the ‘Floyd’s majesty making me adhere to every note,; each Gilmour bend on the Les Paul, Rick Wright’s ethereal melodies, permanently haunting the Milwaukee misty air, as we rode without speaking, simply listening and being simultaneously lost and discovered within the flowing, monolithic and hefty sound-scape. I felt alive in the universe at the age of fourteen and nothing has ever been the same since. This is not just music, nor a collection of parts to a suite; this is a sum greater than all its parts; vastly emotional, rich with taste of note-choice and notation; absolutely aural alchemy. Thank you immensely and permanently, Gilmour, Wright, Mason and Waters.
