I first heard Pink Floyd in 1975 when I was 12 years old and have been a huge fan ever since.
I went to a comprehensive school in Luton, England and our music lessons were unruly to say the least. One day a young supply teacher arrived to take the class and he set up his hi-fi at the front and declared that he wanted to play an album to us. The deal was that we could do whatever we liked in response to what we were about to hear: write, draw or simply chat as long as it wasn’t too loud to disturb anyone who was actually listening.
As this was far better than being told to do any work, even the wildest kids agreed to the offer, and he played Wish You You Here to us, the latest offering from Pink Floyd.
I had never heard anything like it and proceeded to draw a range of images triggered by the shining Diamond, throbbing Machine and the other sonic gems which permeated through my ears into my pre-teenage brain.
It remains my favourite album to this day.
