My introduction to Pink Floyd was in 1979 when I received “The Wall” as a Christmas gift among several other albums. I listened to all four sides that morning…and it utterly terrified me…so much so, that literally HID the album away as I felt it to being akin to “evil.”
I was only 10 years old.
Months later, I heard “Comfortably Numb” on the radio and it sparked a sense of recognition. “I think this is from that scary album,” I pondered. So…I cautiously resurfaced the album and gradually began listening to it again. Still terrified but I kept going.
Not long thereafter, I was listening to it daily. Less frightened (almost) but soon hearing the beauty inside the horror. And even sooner thereafter, I loved it and to this day, it exists as one of my favorite albums of all time.
That is where my journey with Pink Floyd began, a journey that has remained with me ever since for you expanded my consciousness of what music could be and communicate and I am forever grateful.
