I saw Pink Floyd many times at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles many times before DSOTM. I was even lucky to see a performance of Atom Heart Mother with a chamber orchestra with Ron Geesin conducting. The band was always amazing.
Then they moved up the street to the Hollywood Bowl where, in addition to their set, they premiered DSOTM before the album was released. September 22, 1972. Everyone was blown away. I recall the performance sounding different than the finished record.
I followed the band from the release of Piper on. The sonic adventures were glorious.
Then there’s Syd who’s music and contributions continue to feed my heart, soul and mind in deeper ways as I grow older.
There’s a lot of “what if’s?” in life and Syd certainly is one of those.
Thank you for the sound, the experiments, the songs and the explorations. They’ve fed me more than I can say.
